Practice counts!

As I sit in yet another special education informational, I hear theory upon theory. As parents, the practice that comes out of the research is what is important. The purpose of a label is to help prescribe teaching and interventions. Current practice is to identify a child and practice does not follow suit.

As parents we care more about what will change or be modified as a result of the identification of a delay or disability. When a teacher, school, psychologist shares information with you ask them how you can implement the information. Request practical application that can be practiced in the child's natural environments (school, home, church, playground). Otherwise what good is the information.

Education is notorious for identifying problems but have a poor history of practicing solutions.
