The little things

Hey families,

Progress reports have probably come out. Celebrate the small things. Focus on the positives. It is easy for all the attention to go to areas of weaknesses, while ignoring the accomplishments. Celebrate your child today. It doesn't have to be big or expensive: a high five, sticker, or new socks. Learn what is important to your child and celebrate the small victories. After all, kids have many more years of schooling to come (college, vocation). Now is not the time for them to be frustrated or discouraged. Thank the teachers. They are a part of the team.

As we transition to the Common Core it is important to keep these things in mind: 1) Curriculum will come and go but your child's learning styles, and strengths are here to stay, 2) Child development won't budge for inappropriate standards no matter how they are taught and 3) Children can only learn when they are ready to learn.
