Learning takes place everywhere

Yahoo it is the weekend. Did you know learning takes place everywhere?

I just printed the state standards for my children and am excited to see how we can use our time at the park, in the libraries and community to address state standards.

The next time you visit the library and your child wants to check out a ton of books, have them to organize the books into genres. As you all read the books, yes, even older children can benefit from read-aloud, discuss plots, and ask higher order thinking questions such as: evaluate or recommend, produce, contrast, infer or hypothesize or solve this problem.

While your children are listening to music, reading or watching television point out examples of figurative language:hyperbole, simile, personification and idioms. What does your child's grade level need to know?

Even in the day of the internet children need to know how to use an almanacs, newspapers, and periodicals.

So before you go to the grocery store, zoo or park think about which standards you can help your child to master by making the connections. It is easy and makes learning fun!

Learning takes place everywhere.

Stay informed.
