African Americans past and present

Are you a teacher or a parent and you need resources for Black History month or African American History month?

Here are a few exciting things I found.
1) Reading Rockets http://www.readingrockets.org/calendar/blackhistory/ has very comprehensive reading list for young children and youth.

2) Get involved by having your school or church to sponsor (no money involved, unless you want snacks) a National African American Read-in. You can join us anytime between Feb. 1 - Feb. 29th. For more information use this link http://www.ncte.org/action/aari/packetinfo.

3) Ever want to educate yourself more about the contributions of African Americans? Target has a great slide show of some of the wonderful African American inventions. The list can be printed. Kids will love the colorful sheet. See http://sites.target.com/site/en/corporate/page.jsp?contentId=PRD03-002124

4) Scholastic offers fun and engaging activities for students http://teacher.scholastic.com/africanamericanheritage/.

5) A great slide show of African American inventors http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzKCq0MvX9A.

Remember Black history is everyone's history.

If you find other interesting videos or activities please share.

Stay informed!
